Joe Beats & Blak

Joe Beats & Blak came together in the wake of significant pauses in both of their former groups. The pairing is simple: Joe on the beats, Blak on the mic. Their formula is even more straight ahead: just pure hip hop music.

Despite living over 1200 miles apart (Rhode Island to Florida), the new pairing already embark on their second tour with a new 8 song disc, “Strategery” –powered by Nonsense Records. “Strategery” showcases a burning of past demons, petty dramas, loose ties and ends. Settling the score is not the name of the game, catering to no one is.

Immediately after the Diverse Recourse Tour the duo jump right into working on their debut full length album. In the meantime, come see them for yourself or listen here.

S.K.I.P. of Nonsense

My name is S.K.I.P. which is an acronym for Samaritan Knowledge Intervenes Preconditioning. In short, it simply means that each choice that we - as humans - make for our own lives, superceeds everything that has been expected of us by our families, jobs, schools, religions or cultures. Hence, i am myself, and make no apoligies for that. The music i make is centered around creating and manefesting a higher consciousness in which to outweigh all of the petty things in this life like political party affiliations and the ever-fluctuating terror alert status.

This summer i will be releasing my first nationally distributed album through Nonsense Records entitled, "Autobiographicology." This record lovingly fuses together hiphop, funk, blues, experimental rock and ambiant static with more passion and care than Barry White making love to a bowl of whipped cream and bananas. And with sole beat production being handled by Swamburger of the Sol.illaquists of Sound, and guest appearances by DJ DQ, Mauikai, DJ SPS, and Alexandrah of the Sol.illaquists of Sound, you can bet your house on finding yourself on an epic journey knee-deep through the future sound of sound.

Note: The term "conscious hip-hop" is a blanketing stigma assigned to people who write music spoken in cartoon text bubbles. So it would be a shame to overlook the power and potentail of my music by labeling and subsequently dismissing me as simply being a "conscious rapper." The message within my music speaks for itself without any further explanation or apology required. My name is S.K.I.P. I live in Orlando, Florida, and i proudly represent Nonsense Records - the new definition of revolutionary art and music.

Blak

Once upon a time there was this dude named blak Lungz. Now blak loved to rap - no - he just loved music. Because of this love for rapping, for music, for life, love and the pursuit of happiness. . . he did some things. . .

blak will continue in this tradition, sharing his love for life through this medium of music. . . giving it to those who are willing to accept it unfiltered, with no reservations, with no regrets and consider his music to be swell sentiments from an equally swell guy. Look out below its gonna be a big splash. . .

The end.

Joe Beats

Joe Beats is most known as the sole producer of the duo Non-Prophets. Their debut album Hope was released on Lex Records late 2003. Since, Beats has continued as a soloist with numerous releases that thrust his production to the forefront. Most notably amongst the bunch:

2005’s Indie Rock Blues, an uninterrupted collage of remixes of Joey’s favorite songs and groups (Belle & Sebastian, Neutral Milk Hotel, Songs: Ohia, etc). Due to its popularity his remix of Cunninlynguists’ Hellfire eventually got pressed as a single.

Joe now returns on Bully Records with Diverse Recourse: another un-paused mix of hard, gritty, psych-infused hip-hop instrumentals. In short, for those who like their beats blood red raw with no seasoning. Beats’ latest effort is an antidote to the current vat of kool-aid laced with pretense. Here’s what the heads say:

“Beats' use of beautifully raw drum programming…and his mid-90s sampling style harkens back to Pete Rock and Prince Paul, or the low-end proficiency of a young Ali Shaheed Mohammed.”
-Pitchfork Media

“Definitely one of the most underrated underground hip-hop producers working today.”
-Turntable Lab

In the meantime, you can check him on The Diverse Recourse Tour with emcee Blak and purchase their debut 8 song EP, "Strategery".
